Each house has either a balcony or opening French windows offering a delightful aspect onto Widcombe Locks of the Kennet & Avon Canal.  Opened in 1810, the Kennet & Avon Canal was built to link London and Bristol by connecting the Avon Navigation at Bath with the River Kennet at Newbury. Residents of Bridge Lock Mews overlook the picturesque Widcombe Locks where the canal begins its climb from the River Avon before skirting the city through the celebrated Sydney Gardens.  After falling into disuse early last century, the Kennet & Avon was reopened in sections. Many of its distinctive structures – including Widcombe Locks – have been recently restored.

 

The City of Bath is equally famous for its Roman origins and its beautiful Georgian terraces, crescents and squares. Bath is proud to have been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and today the city is the cultural hub of north east Somerset.
