HISTORICALLY

Appearances can be deceptive, especially when looking at the outside of this building. It even deceived Pevsner, the great authority on English architecture, who described it as ‘nice early Victorian Tudor work’. What can be seen are the three phases of construction. The original building has been dated back by the Wiltshire Buildings Record to approximately 1600, and in 1690 it was refaced and three large dormers added. For 200 years it was owned by the Shrapnel family and was formally known as Shrapnel House. In the mid-19th Century the ground floor was dramatically altered with the installation of gothic stained-glass windows and porches and the building became two homes until 1930. In recent years the house has been subject to considerable restoration and improvement work and today provides a most appealing and versatile family home of great character.

DESCRIPTION

Listed Grade II as being of special architectural or historical interest, Jasmine House has a street frontage of approximately 12 metres.

The accommodation has been beautifully and sympathetically restored throughout by the current owners and benefits from many original restored period features to include elm and oak flooring, period fireplaces, stone mullioned windows and exposed beams.

On entering the property on the ground floor there is a spacious reception/dining hall with two versatile receptions rooms, one with the original winder staircase up to the sitting room and the master bedroom. Then proceeding up a few steps there is a stunning fully fitted kitchen/breakfast room with door out on to the rear courtyard and garden, a well fitted utility room and shower room. On the first floor there is the elegant drawing room which has a feature fireplace, sitting room/library, three further bedrooms and a bathroom. On the second floor is the master bedroom suite with en suite shower room and a further bedroom.

To the rear there is a courtyard with stairs up to a delightful walled garden with beautiful planting and pathway leading up to an elevated seating area. There is vehicular access via St Margaret’s Hill to the rear gated parking area, and there are two large stone outbuildings with potential.
